re reduced by the epidemic, previouslynoted. The number was 9,852. Attention is called to the report of the superin-tendent for details. No report would be complete without special mention of our superintendent,Mr. Bacon. To his unremitting labor and his devotion to all its interests muchof the successful administration of the hospital is due. The year to which we look forward is fraught with uncertainty. The closeof the war has brought forth new questions of tremendous importance to theworld, which must be answered. In their solution our own country will takeprominent part. What the effect will be on our finances, who may tell? Thehospital is gradually approaching a situation of greater financial strength, whichwill bring opportunity for increasing usefulness and efficiency. But still wemust depend on our friends, and in submitting this report of our administra-tion for the past year, we bespeak their continued assistance for that on whichwe are entering. Albert M. Day, President. 14
