VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. – At Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, the Pegasus XL rocket with the attached Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph IRIS solar observatory rolled out of the hangar on its transporter to the runway at Vandenberg. There, the rocket and spacecraft were mated with the Orbital Sciences L-1011 carrier aircraft. Scheduled for launch from Vandenberg on June 26, 2013, IRIS will open a new window of discovery by tracing the flow of energy and plasma through the chromospheres and transition region into the sun’s corona using spectrometry and imaging. The IRIS mission will observe how solar material moves, gathers energy and heats up as it travels through a largely unexplored region of the solar atmosphere. The interface region, located between the sun's visible surface and upper atmosphere, is where most of the sun's ultraviolet emission is generated. Zusammenfassung
Ein US-Kampfflugzeug vom Typ C17 Globemaster III mit Fallschirmjägern an Bord überfliegt am 19. Oktober 2016 die Frida Drop Zone in Pordenone, Italien, im Rahmen einer der größten luftgestützten Operationen, die als Peacemaster Unity bekannt ist. Hunderte von Fallschirmjägern des 2. Regiments der ungarischen Armee, der polnischen 6. Luftlandebrigade, der rumänischen 6. Spezialeinsatzbrigade und der 173. Luftlandebrigade der US-Armee nehmen an der Friedensmission teil, die über einen Zeitraum von vier Tagen abgehalten wird. Die gemeinsame Übung demonstriert den Aufbau multinationaler Kapazitäten der Luftfahrtindustrie und der mit ihr verbündeten Nationen. Die 173. Luftlandebrigade ist die Notfallreaktionstruppe der US-Armee in Europa, die in der Lage ist, innerhalb von 18 Stunden einsatzbereite Truppen überall in den Zuständigkeitsbereich der USA, Europas, Afrikas oder des Zentralkommandos zu entsenden.
