Labor Secretary receives silicosis report. Washington D.C. The second National Silicosis Conference in a report to Secretary of Labor Perkins today, recommended enactment of X state and federal laws for protection of 1,000,000 Miners subjected to dangers of silica dust. The conference also reported it was unanimous in recommending compulsory insurance coverage for silicosis in the compensation acts of all states. In the photograph, left to right: (seated) Verne A. Probable new member Federal Communications Commission. Washington D.C. July 26. T.A.M. Craven, now Chief Engineer of the Federal Communications Commission. To succeed Chairman Anning S. Prall, who died a few days ago at his home in Maine. Craven, who was a naval officer during the World War, worked with President Roosevelt when he was Assistant Secretary of the Navy, and commander Craven handled the important naval radio buisness. 7/26/37

Succeeds Harry Hopkins as WPA Head. Washington, D.C., Dec. 23. Col. F.C. Harrington was today appointed by President Roosevelt to be Works Progress Administrator. He succeeds Harry Hopkins whose appointment as Secretary of Commerce was also announced. The White House said that Harrington, present Chief Engineer for WPA, was designated merely as acting WPA Administrator and would not require Senate confirmation, 12/23/38
