Summary

Wreckage of one of two U.S. Navy Grumman A-6A Intuder (BuNos 152625, 152627) of Attack Squadron 196 (VA-196) that were shot down by Mikoyan-Gurevitch MiG-19s of the People's Republic of China Air Force near the North Vietnamese border, Quang Ninh Province, on 21 August 1967. Three out of four aircraft during a raid on the Duc Noi railroad yards were lost, one (BuNo 152638) was shot down during the attack by a SA-7 missile and two were shot down near the Chinese border. Three of the six crewmen became prisoners of war, the others were killed. The photo was taken on 30 November 1967.
VA-196 was assigned to Attack Carrier Air Wing 14 (CVW-14) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation (CVA-64) for a deployment to Vietnam from 28 April to 4 December 1967.
