description

Summary

These two figures once served as guardians to the entrance of the burial chamber of a Chinese tomb. Their decoration with coloured glazes was particularly costly and reveals the high status of the deceased. The bodies of these figures are virtually identical: they were probably made from the same mould. Only the heads have been individually modelled.
