The architecture of the huts within theseenclosures is wonderfully good, the Wagandahaving great natural advantages, and makingfull use of them. The principal materialin their edifices is reed, which in Ugandagrows to a very great height, and is thickand strong in the stem. Grass for thatch-ing is also found in vast quantities, andthere is plenty of straight timber for therafters. The roof is double, in order toexclude the sunbeams, and the outer roofcomes nearly to the ground on all sides.The fabric is upheld by a number of poles,from which are hung corn-sacks, meat, andother necessaries.
