Summary
PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 09, 2010) Sailors assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 14 take boxes of supplies off a C-2A Greyhound transport aircraft from Fleet Logistics Combat Support Squadron (VRC) 30. The supplies will be transferred from Ronald Reagan to the Carnival cruise ship C/V Splendor, which lost propulsion and electrical power following an engine room fire. Ronald Reagan was diverted from its current training maneuvers at the direction of Commander U.S. Third Fleet, and at the request of the U.S. Coast Guard, to facilitate the delivery of 4,500 pounds of supplies to the cruise ship. In the United States Navy, these consist of ships commissioned with hull classification symbols CV (aircraft carrier), CVA (attack aircraft carrier), CVB (large aircraft carrier), CVL (light aircraft carrier), CVN (aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion) and CVAN (attack aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion). The first aircraft carrier commissioned into the United States Navy was USS Langley (CV-1) on 20 March 1922.
