Ritual flask and wine vessel - Public domain museum image. A vase with a handle on a white background
Summary
From 771 BC China was divided into a number of warring states. Their rulers emphasized their power through outward display, so bronzes of this so-called Warring States period had to be richly decorated. Repeating motifs were applied to the casting moulds using stamps. These techniques made it easy to produce impressive series of identical pieces.
