description

Summary

Seaman Joshua C. Kitchens, a corpsman with Police Mentoring team, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, along with a member of the Afghan Uniformed Police, applies a bandage to the foot of an Afghan girl near the Loy Chareh bazaar in Marjah, Afghanistan, Aug. 9, 2010. Kitchens was on a patrol to investigate reports of a Taliban checkpoint to the north, when they came upon a group of children clustered by the trail. The girl had skinned her ankle and was bleeding, and the kids had tied a make shift tournequiet around it with a scrap of cloth. Kitchens and members of the Afghan Uniformed Police worked together, using techniques the PMT had recently covered during first-aid classes, and washed the wound, applied antibiotic, wrapped and taped it and gave the girl a piece of candy. Kitchens is from Laguna Hills, Calif. (Courtesy Photo)
