Summary

The Illustrated London News describes the scene in detail as follows: "The bringing in of the baron of beef was enacted on Tuesday morning, when a procession was formed from the Kitchen to the Hall, where the entry was witnessed by certain members of the Entertainment Committee. The savoury mass was borne in festal triumph, decorated with the City Arms and Union Jacks; . . . ."
