William P. Weeks writes to Amos A. Phelps regarding the breaking of Amos's engagement to Sarah Ann Haggins. He writes that "had you but tied one more knot-you would have given a deathblow to your..respectability and peace on earth and gained a curse (I will not say) in heaven but surely you would..in the displeasure of your friends." He discusses further news of the town of South Berswick.
