dispirited, seemingto regard their fate as sealed; but his heroic wife,thinking not of herself, but of her children, roseequal to the occasion, declaring that they wouldwhip the enemy aud all be saved. From a tableshe was enabled to reach the boards forming theroof. Throwing down the weight poles, therebeing no uails in the boards, she threw downenough boards in advance of the fire to create anempty space.
