Governor Atiqullah Lodin, the governor of Logar province, places a headress on a former detainee as Afghan National Army Maj. Gen. Marjan Shuja gives the former detainee words of advice in a sign of the former detainee's formal return to his family and community during a release shura Sept. 7. Lodin, Shuja and members of the Provincial Joint Secretariat Team held a release shura where three former detainees were released from the Detention Facility in Parwan and back to their families and community. Since this Afghan-led reintegration program began in January 2010, more than 450 detainees have been released at community shuras in 13 provinces after a careful review board process determined their suitability for reintegration and after the detainees signed pledges to renounce violence.
