AUP, ANA learn counter IED methods
Summary
Sgt. Said Amir, a squad leader for the Afghan National Army, performs a mine detection exercise during a counter improvised explosive device course on Camp Bastion, June 6. The class was led by Marines from Joint Sustainment Academy Southwest. Pfc. Shawn Stebbin, a combat engineer with 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group (Forward), guided Amir through the basic skills required to uncover IEDs in the field. Said joined the ANA as an act of patriotism and to participate in his nation’s building efforts, leading to a peaceful future in Afghanistan. Amir, who is from the village of MaZearie Shareefsays, said he finds the training both enjoyable and challenging. He looks forward to returning to his village after completing his training, fulfilling his military service, and starting a family.
