The voltage tapped off willvary with its position, and willbe at its maximum whenthe two ends of the branch wire are as far from one anotheras the sliding contact C will permit, but when C is near Bthe voltage will be small. This sliding rheostat is calleda volt-regulator, and it is usually constructed so as togive a range of from oi volts to 60 volts.
