Low Visibility Surface Operation, NASA history collection
Резюме
Much research has been conducted to improve traffic flow in the terminal area; however, little research has been done to improve traffic flow in the surface movement area or to prevent runway incursions, especially during low-visibility conditions. In response to this research need, NASA Langley Research Center has been developing an electronic map for the cockpit based upon GPS positional information and having the capability to display other traffic and ATC-cleared routes to and from the gates. This photograph shows an electronic map of a segment of Chicago O'Hare airport in the early stages of development. Pilots can select zoom levels to provide more detail in the main display while displaying the whole airport (in the lower right) foe orientation. A later map added an ownship symbol to indicate present position.
