Significance: This beautiful three story masonry home is located in the Historic Lower Garden District of New Orleans, one of the few remaining nineteenth century Greek Revival neighborhoods in the country. Originally part of land known as the Sarpy Plantation, the home was built in 1865 by Daniel McKendrick. McKendrick, a wealthy plumber from Scotland, immigrated to the United States with his family and settled in this area. Some outstanding features of the building are the circular head attic windows and the belvedere on the roof. These Victorian forms are combined with Greek Revival traditions. Amongst the interior is a double parlor containing plaster archways and medallions. Acquired by Eddie Breaux, the property underwent complete restoration, with special attention paid to the architectural style and detail. The home now serves as a successful bed & breakfast.
