the plantation is the scene of raids from both the gray and blue-coated cavalry, who engage insome hot skirmishes, and who supply a picturesque background for the adventures of the lads.War is in the air ; and the boys can no more resist going gunning for deserters in the swampthan they can help breathing. The trustful, confiding natures of the gallant youths and theirzeal to aid the Confederates lead them into some comical escapades, from which their sturdymanliness and self-reliance alone extricate them.
