Summary

Les fleurs animees /par J.-J. Grandville ; introductions par Alph. Karr ; texte par Taxile Delord.

Jean Ignace Isidore Gérard Grandville (1803-1847) was a French artist and caricaturist known for his intricate and imaginative illustrations. He was born in Nancy and studied art in Paris. He began his career as a lithographer, creating illustrations for books and newspapers. Grandville became known for his highly detailed and fantastical illustrations, often featuring anthropomorphic animals and whimsical creatures. He was influenced by the Romantic movement and the works of Edgar Allan Poe, and his illustrations often had a dark and surreal quality. Some of his most famous works include Les Métamorphoses du Jour, a series of illustrations depicting animals in human clothing and situations, and Un Autre Monde, a series of illustrations depicting a fantastical world inhabited by strange creatures. Grandville's work had a significant impact on the development of graphic novel and comic book art, and he is considered one of the pioneers of the genre. He died at the age of 43 in Vanves, France.
