Jean Ignace Isidore Gérard Grandville (1803-1847) was a French artist and caricaturist known for his intricate and imaginative illustrations. He was born in Nancy and studied art in Paris. Grandville became known for his highly detailed and fantastical illustrations, often featuring anthropomorphic animals and whimsical creatures. He was influenced by the Romantic movement and the works of Edgar Allan Poe, and his illustrations often had a dark and surreal quality.
