Indigo bunting (Passerina cyanea), Buffalo National River, 2015.
Summary
The indigo bunting is a small seed-eating migratory bird with a huge habitat range from southern Canada to northern Florida while breeding and from southern Florida to northern South America during winter. This bright bird is sexually dimorphic: the male is a vibrant blue (pictured) in the summer and brown during winter. The female is brown year-round. Interestingly, the indigo bunting usually mirgates at night, using the stars to navigate.
