Bern, Burgerbibliothek, Cod. 354, f. 240r – Composite Manuscript Dits et fabliaux, Sept sages de Rome, Perceval, French

This manuscript is famous primarily for its rich collection of Old French Fabliaux, a considerable number of which survive only in this manuscript; it also is considered among the most important textual witnesses for the fragment of the Sept sages de Rome and for Perceval. Because of its great importance to French poetry, it was lent to Paris at the beginning of the 19th century, was temporarily lost, and had to be re-bought by the municipal library of Bern at great expense in 1836.

Deutsch: Die Handschrift ist in erster Linie berühmt wegen ihres überaus reichen Bestandes an altfranzösischen Fabliaux, von denen eine ansehnliche Zahl nur hier überliefert ist; sie zählt aber auch für das Fragment der Sept sages de Rome und den Perceval zu den wichtigsten Textzeugen. Auf Grund ihres hohen Wertes für die französische Dichtung wurde sie bereits zu Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts nach Paris ausgeliehen, ging dort vorübergehend verloren und musste 1836 von der Stadtbibliothek Bern für teures Geld zurückgekauft werden.

Français : Le manuscrit est célèbre en premier lieu pour son riche fonds de fabliaux en ancien français, parmi lesquels un nombre considérable est transmis uniquement par ce codex : également dans le cas du fragment des Sept sages de Rome et de Perceval il s’agit d’un important témoin textuel. En raison de sa grande valeur pour la poésie française, il fut envoyé en prêt à Paris déjà au début du XIXème, où il fut momentanément perdu avant d’être ensuite racheté en 1836 par la bibliothèque de la ville de Berne moyennant une grande somme d’argent.

Italiano: Il manoscritto è in primo luogo famoso per il suo ricco contenuto di fabliaux in lingua francese antica, dei quali un numero considerevole è tramandato in questo unico codice; anche nel caso del frammento dei Sept sages de Rome e del Perceval si tratta di importanti testimoni del testo. A causa del suo grande valore per la poesia francese fu inviato in prestito a Parigi già all'inizio del XIX secolo, qui andò temporaneamente perso e dovette essere riacquistato nel 1836 dalla biblioteca cittadina di Berna per un alto prezzo.
