It is a great advantage to an x-ray op- 4- have given it then you are sure of get-ting a correct exposure on the secondtrial; if your tube gives off the sameamount of rays and is placed at the samedistances as with the first exposure. In the choice of plates I always use aplate especially prepared for x-ray workwhich has a double thick emulsion on it.I have never seen any rules laid downfor developing these plates, but I spoiledmany a good picture by not continuingthe development long enough. 324 THE AMERICAN X-RAY JOURNAL. I use either of the following develop-ers: Pyro-Eikocum Hydro, or J. C. Tab-loids, but use them much stronger thanthe formula given for ordinary platesand add two drachms of 10 per cent so-lution bromide of potash as a restrainerinstead of about ten drops as for ordina-ry plates; I often use the following form-ula with the J. C. Tabloids: take threeJ and three C tabloids and dissolve infive ounces of water, then add two

Ifthe picture is through the arm or handyou can see first the outlines of the handor arm will appear, then later the bones.If the picture is through the body or thick part this will not occur, but the part ofthe plates which will have the pictureon it will turn dark slowly and you willnot see the outline of the bones or onlyslightly. In the above I refer to the upper orfilm side of the plates; the back of theplate will remain white much longerthan the front. If the picture is througha thin part like the hand, the outline ofthe hand will not disappear entirely, butif through the body,the outline of it willsoon be lost and the filmside of the plate willlook as though you hadno picture.
