The ureteral openings should be carefully noted,and if possible the appearance of the urine as it passesfrom them should be observed. The upper three-fourths of the bladder can be mostreadily investigated, the lower fourth being more difficultto see in cases where enlargement of the prostate ispresent. An ansesthetic is not invariably required, but innervous patients or in sensitive bladders anaesthesia isadvantageous. Time has proved the great value of cystoscopy, andgenito-urinary surgery has advanced enormously, bothas regards diagnosis and treatment, since its introduction.
