frequentlyis manifest at or about the age of puberty,and in the female not infrequently at thetime of menopause. At the sexual epochsthere may be changes occurring in thepituitary body as physiological processes:these processes may be exaggerated inLebers disease, with tumefaction. Duringpregnancy the pituitary body may becomeenlarged, and hemianopia may result. Therelations of the pituitary body and thechiasm are very close, with only thediaphragm sellse between: the latter mayvary greatly in density and be so thin as topermit a very slight enlargement of thegland to impair the function of the nerve.Cases of Lebers disease with glycosuriahave been reported. It is alleged that insome reported cases with pituitary growthsa very early, slight transient papillitis hasbeen detected. Fisher reported two typical cases of thedisease, one a boy, in whom the conditionwas manifest at the age of twelve, and theother his sister, at-the age of eleven andone-half j^ears.
