ominal electrode.Apostoli recommends potters clay. This is mixed upwith water until a plastic, adhesive mass is formed, whichis spread out in a layer about half an inch thick on a pieceof tarlatan. Upon this is placed a metal plate providedwith a binding screw, and the muslin is folded over so asto enclose the clay. This electrode has the disadvantagesof being troublesome to prepare, and of being cold to thepatient. Dr. Franklin Martin, of Chicago, makes use ofa nickel-plated concave plate covered with a membrane,and having an insulated rim to prevent contact betweenthe metal surface and the skin. On the plate is a^nozzlethrough which warm water can be poured, and whichpasses into the space between the membrane and theconcavity of the plate.
